It is like it is – Hate, racism, and misogyny have found renewed space and voice in the White House. Once again, populism proves a powerful force.
As an intercultural trainer working with the US culture, I find this shift disheartening yet, sadly, unsurprising.
And the US isn’t alone in facing these challenges—nationalism and populism’s rise is a global phenomenon.
Is democracy at risk? While the answer remains uncertain, it’s clear that these divisions could strain relationships: between the US & the EU, among friends & families, and within teams at work.
Politics might shape policies, but people shape cultures
❓ As an interculturalist, I often wonder whether our work—building bridges across cultures and fostering understanding—is valued in such a polarized environment.
➡️ But then I remember myelf: politics might shape policies, but people shape cultures. Even those who vote along dividing lines are often capable of empathy and understanding, more so than we acknowledge.
❗ It’s not simply black and white; the issues run deeper, often rooted in complex systems
🎓 For this reason, I urge companies—locally and globally—to invest in their people and teams through workshops and educational initiatives that build inclusive cultures rising above political divides.
Locally grounded efforts that promote respectful communication, empathy, and understanding have the power to drive meaningful change — a change that politics alone struggles to achieve today.
Together we can combat hate
🌎 Together, we can build a culture that combats hate and celebrates diversity. This is the path to sustainable growth and a shared global understanding—for a more humane world and greater efficiency and success of your company.
